On Monday 14th November, our Year 5&6 boys played their first match of the season. It was the Bill McIlvride Cup, which is a competition for all primary schools in West Berkshire. We were drawn against local school, Springfield in the first round.
It was a great game with lots of goals, energy and passion from booth teams. Springfield went ahead early on, before Birch Copse scored two in quick succession to take the lead. Springfield drew level soon after before scoring again in the final minute of the first half leaving the score at 3 - 2 to Springfield going into the break.
After a get together at half time, Birch Copse came out flying in the second half, dominating possession and creating lots of great chances. The boys were rewarded for their efforts, scoring three great goals to bring the score to 5 - 3. Springfield scored again with a few minutes to spare, which led to a nervous couple of minutes at the end but Birch Copse managed to keep hold of the lead and won the match 5 - 4.
Well done to all the boys who played - I am particularly proud of the way they showed real character and perseverance in the second half. Wish us luck in the next round!
