At Birch Copse, we believe that learning a foreign language is an important part of being a member of a multi-cultural society, providing an opening to other cultures and lays the foundations for future language learning. We deliver a high quality and challenging French curriculum from Year 3 onwards based around the four key areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing. It is our intention that children can hold a simple conversation in French, are able to write simple sentences and can read sentences and short paragraphs by the time they leave Birch Copse in Year 6. The progression of skills in these areas are outlined in our Progression Grid below. We aim to deliver the French curriculum in an enjoyable and interactive manner, introducing language that is relevant to our children. Details of the content of our French curriculum can be seen in our Curriculum Overview below.
