SEAL days occur at the beginning of each half term. This is part of our PSHE curriculum. The days start with a whole school assembly led by the PSHE subject leader and then the children complete activities in their classroom learning about the theme of the day.
Art Themed Day – A fun day where children in each class learn about different artists. Children learn about an artist and art movement , the techniques they used to create their work and the children produce work in that style.
Harvest – Children work really hard to learn songs as year groups and as a whole school to perform in our Harvest Assembly. The children bring in produce that is displayed in the hall for the assembly before being divided up by our generous parent volunteers and delivered to the elderly in the local community by the children.
Carol Services – St Catherine’s Church welcomes us each year just before we break up for Christmas for our two festive Christmas Carol services to help us all get in the mood for Christmas! The infants and juniors walk over to the church for their separate services to sing the hymns they have been rehearsing and tell Christmas stories. This is always a really fun morning!
Christingle – To celebrate Christingle, we hold a whole school Service. Every child in the school makes a Christingle and brings it into the hall where we sings festive songs and light some of the candles. Reverend Smith from St Catherine’s Church always joins us to talk to the children about the meaning of Christingle.
Christmas party – In the run up to Christmas, we have our annual Christmas party. Everyone gets dressed up in party clothes, eats party food, plays party games and has fun at a disco! It is always a great way to end the term and get excited about Christmas!
World Book Day – We love books and reading at Birch Copse so what better way to celebrate World Book Day then to hold a Book Fair where children can buy exciting new books to read. Each year group during the day learn all about a particular author and every child in school has the chance to share their favourite book with a child from a different year group.
Themed Week - During our annual themed week the children have the chance to work in different classrooms and be taught by different teachers. We choose a topic and everyone learns about this. Previous topics have included: Art around the World, Space, Olympics, Eco week and Science week. We celebrate the great work produced throughout the week by holding an exhibition where we invite all the children, family and friends. These weeks are always great fun and a lovely way for the whole school to learn together.
Sports Day – Our sports day really is a whole day event. In the morning the junior head out to the field wearing their team colours to take part in a variety of competitive races in front of the parents. In the afternoon it’s the infants turn. They move round the field in their class having a go at a variety of sporting activities. At lunchtime we have a picnic on the field which parents are invited to. It is always a fun day.
